Basics Of Creating A Website

For those of you who are completely new to creating websites and Internet marketing, the whole idea of becoming a successful poker affiliate seems miles away. In reality however, creating a website isn’t that difficult if you know how, but the only thing is that I’m guessing that nobody has told you how to do it yet. So this is where I come into play =].

I’m going to give you a quick guide to setting up a website, and explain about the different things that you will need to get any website up onto the World Wide Web. I can guarantee that it isn’t going to as hard as you think, nor is it going to be as expensive as you might imagine.

So here are the 4 simple steps to getting a website up onto the Internet…

1) Make Your Website

Obviously you are firstly going to need to create a website that you would like to put on the Internet. Most people use programs like Microsoft FrontPage or Dreamweaver to make their websites. Just as you would use a program like paint to make drawings, you would use these programs to design your websites and add your text as you see fit. FrontPage is already incorporated into most computers, but if you don’t have it then you can find some great free alternatives on the web.

2) Get a Domain

The domain is going to be the address people use to visit your website, which is going to be like yourwebsite.com. Domain names cost under $10 (roughly $8) for a year, and you can get them from places like Active Domain and GoDaddy You can get domains for free with alternative addresses, but I would strongly recommend that you get a proper domain like a .com, .org or .net. Not many people are going to take a site too seriously if it uses has a free domain name. $10 for a whole year isn’t much!

3) Buy Some Hosting

Your website needs some space on the Internet to live, and so this is where hosting comes into play. Buying web space for your site is like renting out a patch of the Internet to put your site on, and the domain name points to this space you have bought. So when you upload your website files to the web space and point your domain to this web space, people will be able to see your site when they type your domain into the address bar.

You can get some really good hosting packages for just $4.95 a month from SkyNetHosting. You can get cheaper deals elsewhere, but this is the best value for money you are going to get. If you are paying a low price, you are going to get low quality in return; with little or no support and lots of downtime. So be happy to pay a decent amount for less hassle down the road.

4) Transfer Your Site to Your Web Space

Now that you have a website and some hosting, you need to get those files from your computer and up onto your web space. You can do this by using what is known as a ‘FTP’ program, which simply helps you to get your files from one place to another. A example of a simple FTP program that I like to use is CoreFTP (which can also be upgraded for extra features). All you have to do to is enter a few details about your hosting into the program so that it knows where to send your files, and you will be ready to transfer away. After you have uploaded all of your files, you can type in your website address into your web browser and it will be there. Easy!

As I hope you can see, creating a website isn’t nearly as hard as most people think. Most people know about creating a website and buying hosting, but the only thing that confuses most people is getting the website onto the Internet. It may take a bit of practice at first to find out where everything goes and what to do, but after you have managed to do it once, you will be able to make websites for the rest of your life. Absolutely anyone can make a website, all you have to do is follow the steps above and you are away.

After getting your website running, all you need to do is find a way to make some money from it. This is where poker affiliating is going to come into play.
